What Are Dental Implants?

An implant is a tiny metallic fixture that serves as a complete tooth replacement. During a short surgical session, the dentist positions this implant into the bone under your gums, precisely where a tooth once stood. This implant mimics a natural tooth root and is complemented with restorations like a dental crown, making it appear and feel indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

Opting for dental implants is a significant decision. If you’re contemplating getting an implant but are uncertain about the process, we provide a comprehensive breakdown here to help you make a knowledgeable choice regarding your dental care.

The professional treatment you receive by Dr. Masterson and his staff is unreal. Having come from a bigger city of Clearwater, FL, we had options upon options to find good care. One of the things we expected was to struggle to find a great dentist in a much smaller town. Well, it happened when we met Dr. Masterson and God willing, we will never leave this dentist until he retires. It's that simple.

I gave them a call for a dental emergency. From beginning an X-ray, to insurance & patients forms, to a new bridge completed by Dr. Michael Masterson & his crew, it was all done in no time! Payton & Dr. Masterson were wonderful from the very start. A total 5 Star plus experience. Give them a call, you will be glad you did for dental work.

I broke a tooth last night and I called as soon as they opened, I was expecting to not be able to get an appointment. I was surprised that they managed to be able to fit me in around their other appointments. The ladies at the front desk were all very friendly and helpful. Once I was taken into the back, Payton and especially Morgan were amazing and went out of their way to help get me taken care of. Highly recommend! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. This will definitely be my new Dentist office from now on... thank you!

Why You Might Need Dental Implants

Natural teeth not only define the contour and elevation of your smile but also facilitate effortless eating and speaking.

A void in your smile can potentially lead your remaining teeth to shift from their optimal position. Such misalignment can escalate your susceptibility to dental complications. The loss of even a single tooth can initiate a domino effect, adversely influencing your dental well-being, facial aesthetics, and overall life quality.

While some might not immediately notice these repercussions of missing teeth, an unavoidable concern is bone resorption. This is an inherent process where the body repurposes non-vital bone minerals for other bodily functions.

The presence of teeth in your jawbone exerts pressure, promoting bone tissue regeneration. Without this stimulation from teeth, the bone begins to deteriorate. Over time, this can lead to a receded jawline and chin, resulting in wrinkles and a hollowed look for the cheeks and lips.

Opting for dental implants is akin to reclaiming your natural teeth. By filling those dental voids with implants, you can counteract or even reverse the aforementioned challenges.

    The Benefits Of Dental Implants

Losing a tooth can be a significant setback. A gap in our teeth can affect our confidence, impacting our smile, and pave the way for numerous health challenges. This void can alter your bite, make consuming certain foods a task, and potentially result in bone deterioration or teeth misalignment.

Rediscover Your Authentic Look – Dental implants are designed to mirror the look and sensation of your genuine teeth. They seamlessly integrate, acting as permanent and impeccable teeth tailored to harmonize with your smile. Their design ensures they’re proportioned, contoured, and tinted to complement your distinctive bite and enamel hue.

Embrace Your Renewed Comfort – When you get a dental implant, it merges with your jawbone during the healing process. A crown, bridge, or even implant-supported dentures can be anchored to this base. One thing is guaranteed: The dental implant remains steadfast. Relish every laughter, flaunt your smile, and indulge in your cherished meals without the fear of tooth movement or unexpected discomfort.

Enhance Bone Integrity – In the absence of teeth, the supporting bone tends to shrink and weaken. However, dental implants promote bone regeneration around their site, reinforcing the bone framework.

Dental implants stand out as a durable solution that not only feels innate but can also endure for many years, especially when coupled with diligent dental care.

    Dental Implant Restorations

The prosthetic that crowns the implant is the “artificial tooth.” While the implant remains hidden beneath your gums when you grin, the overlying prosthetic is what imparts the illusion of a renewed tooth.

Dental Cap – Typically utilized in implant procedures, this covers the implant when only a single tooth is being replaced.

Dental Span – This bridges the void when there’s a sequence of absent teeth. With just a couple of implants, you can replenish several teeth using a dental span.

A comprehensive implant – supported span refers to a full set of either upper or lower teeth anchored to a minimum of four implants.

Implant-Supported Denture – Boost the stability of a detachable denture by anchoring it to a pair of compact implants.

    How It Feels

While the idea of embedding a metal implant into your jawbone might sound daunting, the experience is generally much more comfortable than anticipated.

We’ll administer a gentle anesthetic to ensure you don’t experience pain during the surgery. Cutting-edge dental techniques enable us to insert implants swiftly, precisely, and with minimal intrusion. This translates to reduced pain and recovery time for you.

Some individuals even mention feeling a bit restless or drowsy during the brief implant placement, which typically lasts around 30 minutes. Perhaps the only mildly challenging part might be keeping your mouth open for short intervals.

It’s common to feel a bit of swelling, discomfort, or even slight bruising in the initial hours post-procedure. However, the pain is usually quite manageable. We’ll provide clear guidelines to mitigate any discomfort even before the anesthetic effect subsides. You can expect the surgical site to improve within a week.

For reassurance, it’s worth noting that dental implants boast a success rate of nearly 95%. Opting for an implant is among the most reliable and predictable practices in the realm of dentistry.

What To Expect On Your Dental Implant Treatment Journey.

The procedure of placing the implant is far more straightforward and pleasant than one might presume.

    Assessment

Initially, you’ll undergo a dental implant assessment to determine if implants suit your needs. Your dentist will utilize X-rays and a 3D cone-beam CT scan to examine your jaw’s bone structure and strategize the procedure. The dental professionals will also capture a scan or mold of your teeth to guide them in positioning your implant optimally.

    Inserting the implant

We apply an anesthetic to ensure the area undergoing surgery is entirely numb. The dentist then makes a slight incision in your gums and jawbone. Following this, the implant post is inserted into the prepared space. On certain occasions, stitches might be required to seal the gums, but not always.

    Finalizing the restoration

You’ll return home to allow your implant adequate time to heal over the subsequent months. When you revisit our clinic, we’ll have your dental prosthetic prepared. Once we affix the restoration, you’ll depart with a rejuvenated and entirely operational tooth.

Cost Of Dental Implants In Crystal River

In Crystal River, a single implant typically ranges between $3,000 – $6,000+. Comprehensive full-mouth dental implant reconstructions can vary from $6,000 to over $60,000, with a full set of implant-supported dentures averaging around $30,000. It’s essential to understand that providing a precise quote over the phone isn’t feasible due to the intricacies of dental implant procedures, as they’re tailored to individual needs.

What contributes to the pricing of dental implant surgery? Here are key considerations:

    • The kind and quantity of implants you require.
    • The choice of materials and equipment involved.
    • The expertise and time commitment of the dental team assisting throughout the procedure.
    • The surgical procedure’s location and intricacy.
    • Your recovery duration – we’re committed to supporting you for as long as necessary. Each case is unique, necessitating a thorough discussion and oral examination with a dentist. This allows us to gauge your specific circumstances and propose tailored treatment options. Following the assessment, we can offer a more precise cost estimate.

Are there alternative solutions to missing teeth? For 1 to 3 missing teeth, a dental bridge may be a viable solution. Significant tooth loss, either in the upper, lower, or both jaws, might be addressed with dental prosthetics or detachable dentures. When weighing the costs of dental implants against other tooth replacement methods, it’s crucial to assess the advantages and disadvantages.

While dental implants might have a higher initial cost, they offer more stability and longevity compared to bridges or dentures. Detachable dental prosthetics demand a distinct maintenance regimen, and over time, adjustments or replacements might be necessary. In contrast, caring for a dental implant is akin to looking after your natural teeth – it involves regular home oral care and periodic dental check-ups. When maintained properly, a dental implant can serve you for a lifetime.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The procedure for dental implants involves numbing the area with anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the surgery. However, after the anesthesia wears off, there might be some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. This post-operative discomfort varies from person to person but is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and it typically subsides within a few days.

Dental implants are often considered worth the investment because they provide a long-lasting solution, can prevent bone loss, improve oral functionality, and enhance the aesthetics of your smile. While they may have a higher upfront cost compared to other dental prosthetics, their durability often means fewer repairs and replacements in the long run.

Both dental bridges and implants are effective solutions for replacing missing teeth. Here are some considerations:
    – Dental Bridges: These replace missing teeth by anchoring to the neighboring teeth. They are less invasive than implants but require the adjacent teeth to be modified. Bridges might need replacement after 10-15 years.
    – Dental Implants: These are surgically placed into the jawbone and act as artificial tooth roots. They don’t require altering neighboring teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care. They can also prevent bone loss in the jaw.

Yes, there are procedures known as “immediate” or “same-day” implants. In such procedures, a temporary tooth is placed on the same day as the implant placement. However, the patient still needs to wait for a few months for the implant to integrate fully with the bone before a permanent restoration is placed.

Ideally, dental implants are placed several weeks to months after a tooth extraction to allow the extraction site to heal fully. However, in some cases, “immediate” implants can be placed at the same time the tooth is extracted. The suitability for immediate implant placement depends on factors like the condition of the bone, the location of the missing tooth, and overall oral health.
